In Detroit on Thursday?

As many of you know, my dissertation will try to resolve the liberal society / consensus versus multiple traditions stalemate. Like, on page two, I quote Rogers Smith regarding “multiple traditions.” I explore the possibility of authoritarianism and republicanism in America. So, on Thursday, I will be in Detroit!

2013 Meaning of Citizenship Keynote Speaker, Thursday, Rogers Smith (Wayne State University). See the full conference program. From Wayne State’s website:

Rogers Smith,  Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Professor of Political Scientist and chair of the Penn Program on Democracy, Citizenship, and Constitutionalism at the University of Pennsylvania will be returning to the Center.

Professor Smith centers his research on constitutional law, American political thought, and modern legal and political theory, with special interests in questions of citizenship, race, ethnicity and gender. Smith is renowned for his many books about citizenship and racial, gender, and class inequalities. He will be speaking on “The Questions Facing Citizenship in the 21st Century”

Professor Smith will be speaking at Kresge Auditorium in the Purdy Kresge Graduate Library at 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 21.

I look forward to it!
