Maynor on republicanism.

On republicanism:  Actors of republicanism believe that there is no liberty with domination (i.e., without rules to encourage equity). To republicanism, liberty is non-domination and non-domination is liberty. You are not free when constantly barraged with the threat of arbitrary interference. Republicanism will constantly question how the State may meddle to promote “ideals and values… of non-domination” (Maynor 2003, 82). The State will challenge dominating ways of life and abandon liberal neutrality (Ibid).

Note, do not mix this with the Republican Party.
